A fire, be it caused intentionally or unintentionally, leads to economic loss and physical damage, and requires digestion. The number of fires is increasing yearly, and electrical fires account for more than 30% among the main causes of fires. Electric wires that catch fire typically employ silicone coatings; silicone has organic as well as inorganic properties. Silicon is a natural, nonexistent, synthetic product with numerous applications. In this study, a silicon rubber for application in wires was prepared by high-temperature vulcanization (HTV) with a Shore A hardness of 70. We report results for the flame retardancy test and the fire safety characteristics via inorganic analysis. For this, a quartz inorganic material was added to the wire specimen, and 18% powdered extinguishing agent ammonium phosphate and expanded vermiculite respectively. Thus, expanded vermiculite showed the best flame retardancy and fire safety characteristics.
In this study, a high-temperature vulcanizing (HTV) method was used to achieve a shore a hardness of 70. The basic base was composed of 60% silicon gum (GUM) which is a high-viscosity polymer, 30% fumed silica (FS), and 5% of plasticizer. The GUM and FS were mixed well with less than 1% silane to improve rubber strength. Expanded vermiculite was added as a filler at 10%, 15%, and 20%. The curing conditions were 170℃ for 10 min and a molding method was applied. We report herein, the results of inorganic analysis and flame-retardant and tracking tests on the expanded vermiculite. The flame retardance and tracking test outcomes for a shore a hardness of 70 were found to be optimal when the expanded vermiculite content was 10%.
Hexagonal boron nitride particles (s-hBN) modified with 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) were used for the preparation of silicone composite materials. The microstructure of the composite materials was observed, and the thermal conduction and mechanical characteristics of the composite sheets were studied based on the compositions and microstructures. When a small amount of s-hBN particles was used, the thermal conductivity of the composite improved as a whole, and the tensile strength of the sheet also increased. The thermal conductivity and tensile strength of the composite in which a small amount of carbon fiber was added along with s-hBN were further improved. However, the use of carbon nanotubes with structural characteristics similar to those of carbon fiber resulted in lower thermal conductivity and tensile strength. Elastic silicone composites exhibiting 2.5 W/mK of thermal conductivity and a low hardness are expected to be used as thermally conductive interfacial sheet materials.
In this study, the partial discharge degradation properties for 2-core PVC cable(2 cores × 1.5 mm2 cross section, length of 10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm) following immersion with the salt water that the 2%, 4%, 8% of NaCl is dissolved in 100 g of distilled water for 48 and 96 hours has been measured. The results of this study are as follows. When the degradation time in salt water of 2% NaCl is 48 hours, it found that the number of partial discharge increased as about 40 pps, 50 pps, 90 pps with increasing the length of cable to 10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm. In case the concentration and degradation time is same, the inception and extinction voltage decreased with increasing the length of cable. When the degradation time in salt water is 96 hours and the length of cable is 20 cm, it found that the number of partial discharge decreased as 3,000 pps, 500 pps, 100 pps with increasing the concentration of NaCl to 2%, 4%, 8%.
In this study, the characteristics of partial discharge was measured for the four core silicone cable (0.6/1.0 kV, 1.0 SQ × 4 C) with insulated part of 15 cm and conductor of 1cm. The following results have been confirmed as a result of this study. When the first line of cable is connected to the positive electrode and the second, third line of cable is connected to the negative electrode, it found that the inception voltage and extinction voltage decreased with increasing the line of negative electrode, and the partial discharge charge quantity(Q) increases, while the number of discharge occurrence has decreased. The inception voltage and extinction voltage of partial discharge has decreased with increasing the degradation rate in the 33%, 67%, 100%. Also, it confirmed that the partial discharge charge quantity(Q) and the number of discharge occurrence has decreased.
The characteristics of dielectric constant and tanδ of low viscosity silicone oils with changing degree of polymerization were investigated. The result shows dipole loss mechanism at low temperature range. The dielectric loss in the range of low frequencies are predominantly of ionic nature with temperature increase. The peak of dielectric loss is the detrapping of the electrons which is were trapped in the localized level of the silicone oils at the frequency of 30 kHz. The increase of ionic conduction is attributed to the presence of ionizable oxidation products and their increased dissociation feature. The activation energy △H and dipole moment μd were increased whit increasing degree of polymerization.
In this study, using the silicone rubber sample of 4 cm × 4 cm × 0.1 cm for low voltage cable, the electrostatic electrification properties of three samples that the conductive Al of 0%, 25%, and 50% isattached to the surface of sample was measured. The following conclusion was obtained through thisexperiment. 1) In case of the sample which has the Al area of 50%, the higher the humidity to 90% in thetemperature of 10℃, the electrostatic electrification voltage was reduced about 0.25 kV to 0.02 kV, and itconfirmed that the electrostatic electrification voltage was in constant about 0.02 kV in the temperature over20℃. 2) Increasing the Al area of samples of 0%, 25%, and 50% in temperature of 10℃, it confirmed thatthe electrostatic electrification voltage was reduced by about 2.67 kV, 2.02 k, 0.21 kV. 3) This study showsthat the conductor, followed by temperature and humidity affects the electrostatic electrification voltage.
Chip on board type white light emitting diode on metal core printed circuit board with high thixotropy silicone is fabricated by vacuum printing encapsulation system. Encapsulant is chosen by taking into account experimental results from differential scanning calorimeter, shearing strength, and optical transmittance. We have observed that radiant flux and package efficacy are increased from 336mW to 450mW and from 11.9 lm/W to 36.2 lm/W as single dome diameter is varied from 2.2 mm to 2.8 mm, respectively, Double encapsulation structure with 2.8 mm of dome diameter shows further significant enhancement of radiant flux and package efficacy to 667mW and 52.4 lm/W, which are 417mW and 34.8 lm/W at single encapsulation structure, respectively.
Encapsulant curing in terms of convection oven leads to thermal induced stress due to nonuniform thermal conductivity in LED package. We have adopted infrared (IR) light for silicone curing in order to release the stress. The light uniformity irradiated on an encapsulant surface is confirmed to be uniform by optical simulation. Shear strength of die paste using IR compared to convection oven is increased 19.2% at the same curing time, which indicates curing time can be shortened. The indentation depth difference between center and edge of silicone encapsulant in terms of convection oven and IR are 14.8% and 3.4%, respectively. Curing by IR also shows 2.3% better radiant flux persistency rate of LED at 85℃ after 1,000 h reliability test compared to convection curing.
This study made a specimen (contact surface size: 45 rinnxO.02 mmx45-55 nm) with silicon rubber for low voltage cable with 50 phr silica filler. The electrification voltage of electrostatics were measured for different sizes of contact surface with the applied voltage of 10kV and the environmental settings of temperature (25 -40t) and humidity (40 -80%). The following conclusions were made. The electrification voltage of electrostatics decreased as the humidity increased. The electrification voltage of electrostatics increased as the temperature increased. The larger the surface size, the higher the electrification voltage of electrostatics. The property of the material had more effect on the relaxation time than the humidity.
In this thesis, the silicone filler with a sample size of 0∼75 phr and void size of 2∼4.5 mm is prepared in order to diagnose the defect of void which exists in widely used insulation material, silicone rubber. In this silicone rubber sample, electrodes are connected and whilst the voltage changes, applied voltage 7 kV∼9 kV is increased constantly over time and discharge quantity, discharge frequency and applied voltage (T-QNV) were measured. The discharge quantity of the applied voltage (VQ) is measured to estimate inception voltage and extinction voltage. In addition, under the condition of maintaining constant applied voltage, discharge quantity and discharge frequency (QN) are measured, and its characteristics are analyzed.
