Research misconduct-related regulations

Chapter 1: General Provisions

The primary objective of these regulations is to uphold and strengthen the integrity of research published in the Journal of Electrical and Electronic Materials (JEEM) by establishing clear standards for ethical conduct, committee operations, and disciplinary procedures. To oversee these standards, the Research Ethics Committee of the Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic Material Engineers (KIEEME) is established. The committee is chaired by the Editor-in-Chief of JEEM, who convenes the body upon the Editorial Committee's proposal regarding potential misconduct. The committee consists of up to five experts appointed by the President of KIEEME upon the recommendation of the Editorial Committee, ensuring a fair and rigorous deliberation process.

Chapter 2: Research Misconduct

Research misconduct policies apply to all manuscripts, documents, and datasets submitted to or published in JEEM. This includes a strict prohibition on Simultaneous Submission, where papers may not be submitted to other domestic or international journals concurrently. Duplicate Publication is also forbidden; articles previously published elsewhere cannot be reproduced. However, research derived from academic dissertations or technical reports may be considered if the author clearly states the source and the nature of the supplements. Plagiarism—defined as the unauthorized use of ideas, results, or expressions from any media—is strictly prohibited, including Self-Plagiarism. Exceptions are made only for widely accepted academic knowledge. Furthermore, Forgery and Falsification are regarded as severe violations; forgery involves the creation of non-existent data, while falsification refers to the intentional manipulation of research materials, equipment, or processes to distort results.

Chapter 3: Deliberation and Resolution Procedures

Upon receiving a report of potential misconduct, the Chair of the Editorial Committee must gather relevant data to verify the credibility of the allegation. Once confirmed, the matter is referred to the Research Ethics Committee, which provides the researcher in question an opportunity to submit a written explanation at least two weeks before a formal hearing. The committee aims for a unanimous decision on misconduct; however, if a consensus is not reached, a resolution is passed by a three-fifths (3/5) majority of the attending members. Following a decision, the committee determines appropriate disciplinary actions and notifies the parties involved.

Appeals and Supplementary Provisions

A researcher who disagrees with the committee’s judgment may file a formal Objection once within one month of notification. The Research Ethics Committee will then review the validity of the objection to decide whether a revision of the initial resolution is warranted. These regulations, including any amendments, openings, or closings, are subject to the approval of the KIEEME Board of Directors. This code remains in active effect following the board's approval, with the most recent revisions ensuring that JEEM continues to meet the highest global standards for academic publishing and research integrity.
