Haebin Park, Jungwoo Hong, Soyoung Moon, Taejoon Lee, Dongwon Kang, Kyungtaek Min
J Electr Electron Mater 2026;39(1):88-93.   Published online January 1, 2026

The continuous rise of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions highlights the urgent need for sustainable air purification technologies. Current Direct Air Capture (DAC) filters often rely on toxic amines, which limit long-term stability and safe application. Here, we report a non-toxic PAN-based nanofiber air filter fabricated by electrospinning and urea-assisted carbonization. Structural analyses confirmed the introduction of nitrogen functionalities that enhanced CO₂ affinity, while SEM and FT-IR revealed graphitic carbon formation. In air-chamber tests, the optimized carbonized nanofiber reduced CO₂ concentration from 25,000 ppm to 2,000 ppm, a level generally regarded as acceptable for indoor environments, while simultaneously removing over 95% of PM10, PM2.5, and PM0.1 particulates. This dual functionality, combined with facile fabrication and material safety, demonstrates strong potential for PAN-derived carbon nanofiber membranes in DAC systems and eco-friendly air purification devices. These findings suggest a viable pathway toward scalable, sustainable air-filter technologies for carbon-neutral applications.

J Electr Electron Mater 2025;38(6):617-628.   Published online November 1, 2025
DOI: https://doi.org/10.4313/JEEM.2025.38.6.3
Nozzle-printing dispensers, which utilize air pulsation as a dispensing principle, operate by transmitting air pressure to the liquid to push a constant amount of liquid. Nozzle printers have the advantage of precisely controlling energy based on liquid properties, such as viscosity and surface tension, enabling the precise application of liquid at specific locations and quantities. This study introduces a printing process sequence using a nozzle printer equipped with a high-resolution vision alignment system. It compares printing patterns according to key process variables (jet pressure, tip height, and travel speed) that affect coating quality. Experimental results showed that a coating standard deviation of 2.14 μm was achieved at a moving speed of 20 mm/s and a nozzle height of 0.2 mm, resulting in the most stable and uniform coating quality. Through these experiments, optimal conditions were identified based on factors such as coating width, uniformity, and presence of discontinuity, and the effects of these conditions on the precision manufacturing process are discussed.

J Korean Inst Electr Electron Mater Eng 2016;29(9):552-558.   Published online September 1, 2016
DOI: https://doi.org/10.4313/JKEM.2016.29.9.552
Goethite, α-FeOOH have various applications such as absorbent, pigment and source for magnetic materials. Goethite particles were synthesized in a two step process, where Fe(OH)2 were synthesized in nitrogen atmosphere using FeSO4 as a raw material in the first process, and after that acicular goethite particles were obtained in an air oxidation process of Fe(OH)2 in highly alkaline aqueous solution. Their phase and microstructure were investigated with XRD and FE-SEM. It was found that the morphology of goethite and the ratio of length-to-width (aspect ratio) of acicular goethite are dependent on the some factors such as R value (OH-/Fe2+), air flow rate and pH conditions. In particular, R value has the strongest influence on the synthesized goethite morphology. It is considered that the optimal value R is 4.5 because X-ray diffraction peaks of goethite have the highest intensity at that value. Morphology of goethite particles was controlled by air flow rates, showing that their size and aspect ratio are getting smaller and decrease, respectively as air flow rate increases. The largest goethite particle obtained is about 1,500 nm in length and 150 nm in diameter.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.4313/JKEM.2015.28.1.28
The needle electrode is inserted into the cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE) which is the ultrahigh voltage cable for electric power. By changing the tilt of the needle electrode, we investigated how the void and the thickness of the insulating layer influence the partial discharge(PD) characteristics and the insulating breakdown. In order to investigate the PD characteristics, The XLPE cable was used to the specimens and the tungsten electrode was used with the needle electrode. And the inner semi-conductive layer material of XLPE cable was used with the negative electrode by bonding with the use of conduction tape. The size of the specimens was manufactured to be 16×40×30 [㎣]. We confirmed the effect on changing the PD characteristics according to the changing voltage and the tilt of the electrode after applying the voltage on the electrode from 1[kV] to 40[kV] at room temperature. In the PD characteristics, it was confirmed that the PD current of air void specimens with tilt was unstable more than that of no void specimens with tilt. It was also confirmed that the breakdown voltage was decreased because the effect of air void is more active than the change of the needle electrode tilt in the specimen with air void inside the insulation.

This paper conducted a study on how the heat radiation of light emitting diode (LEI)) luminaires affects the indoor temperature increase. The effect was compared with that of a 20 W compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) and a 50 W MuG halogen lamp which are most widely used inside of cruises, a LED downlight and a 4W MRI6 LED replacing each of them. We installed a luminarie inside a thermally shielded chamber, measuring the temperature changes under the same volume every 5 minutes and compared the result with theoretically calculated heat radiation, The temperature changes in the chamber was measured four times, on seven hours` period in order to keep sufficient time once the temperature reaches the thermal equilibrium state. The results showed that the temperature of the 20 W E26 CFL and the 10 W LED downlight increased by 21,1`C and 10.4t respectively, while that of the 50 W halogen MRI6 and the 4 W LED MR16 increased by 33.9t and 4.8t respectively. The experimental heat radiation were calculated from the results and the experimental heat radiation of the CFL and the LED downlight were 171.5 cal and 86.5 cal, and those of the halogen MR16 and the LED MR16 were 275.3 cal and 36.5 cal, Therefore, the heat radiation was reduced by 49.5% and 86.7%, respectively, by replacing conventional light source with LED. In conclusion, we can expect a reduction of power consumption in air condition system and the effect on indoor temperature increase by application of LED luminaires.

In this study, magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn) and aluminium (Al) as anode electrode and the solution of NaCl dissolved with 2~20 wt% as electrolytes were used for the metal-air cell. The open circuit voltage, short circuit current and I-V characteristics upon different kinds of anode electrode and electrolyte concentration were investigated. The open circuit voltage, initially about 1.45 V, rises to 1.6 V during the first 10 minutes indicating the necessity of an induction time to activate the catalyst on the air cathode. The short circuit current increases with an increased concentration of NaCl, causes an increase in the conductivity of the electrolyte solution, but the open circuit voltage did not under undergo influence of electrolyte. From NaCl 20 wt% electrolyte, the maximum output power of the magnesium electrode materials was measured with 177mW. It is found that the power characteristics of metal-air cell could be improved by using magnesium electrode materials in the NaCl electrolyte.

In this paper, we studied the dielectric breakdown voltage characteristics by the AC withstand voltage test on using green insulation dry air instead of SF6 insulation gas used in the GIB (gas insulated bus) of 362 kV GIS (gas insulated switchgear). The AC withstand voltage test applied to the standard KEPCO`s 362 kV GIB with dry air insulation, and the equivalence of dielectric breakdown voltage for dry air and SF6 gas were examined, and the empirical formulas of dielectric breakdown voltage for dry air were calculated, and the criterion of AC withstand voltage test for dry air insulation was derived. Using the criterion, dry air can be used instead of SF6 gas for 362 kV GIB in the factory acceptance test was confirmed.
