Low-Power LC-VCO Design Based on Si-NWFET Using Switched Capacitor Array
Seung Hyeok Choi, Han Jung Song
J Electr Electron Mater 2025;38(2):200-206.   Published online March 1, 2025
DOI: https://doi.org/10.4313/JKEM.2025.38.2.11
This paper presents a Si-NWFET-based LC-VCO design that includes an SCA, a P-type Si-NWFET varactor, a 1.2 nH LC tank, and a bias network to linearize the varactor’s C-V characteristics, enabling a wide oscillation frequency tuning range. The circuit achieves a 24 GHz oscillation frequency with a low power consumption of 16.8 μW at a control voltage (Vctrl) of 0.7 V. Phase noise simulations indicate an excellent -109.62 dBc/Hz at a 1 MHz offset, confirming its applicability for RFIC systems. Additionally, the proposed LC-VCO demonstrates stable performance in five major corner process analyses, ensuring robustness under extreme conditions. These results validate the durability of the design and highlight the potential of Si-NWFETbased LC-VCOs as a viable, low-power, highly integrated solution for RFIC applications. The findings underscore the suitability of Si-NWFET technology as a promising alternative to current FinFET and CMOS processes in advanced circuit design.

In this paper, we analyzed the power consumption and the accumulated energy in HTSC (high-TC superconducting elements) according to the resistance of HTSC element and the winding current of transformer type SFCL (superconducting fault current limiter) using double quench. For the analysis, two different inductances of the one secondary winding among two secondary windings comprising the transformer type SFCL were selected and the short-circuit tests were carried out. The consumed power and the accumulated energy in HTSC element connected into the secondary winding with larger inductance were analyzed to be larger compared to the one connected into the secondary winding with lower inductance.

J Electr Electron Mater 2015;28(1):57-63.   Published online January 1, 2015
Recently, LED is widely used in the kinds of display devices or lighting. In this paper, we fabricated LED chamber light for naval vessels to replace to conventional chamber light using incandescent lamp. The LED package of chamber light was designed with luminous intensity of 5.5 cd, color temperature of 6,000 ± 500 K, forward voltage of 3~3.2 V and input current of 60 mA. A LED module was composed of 36 LED packages and metal PCB. The VF and luminous intensity of LED package were getting down when temperature increased. The temperature of LED chamber light was measured by changing the number of LED package and applied current for one hour when an electric current flow. The heat transfer capability have been improved by using metal PCB. The power consumption of LED chamber light reduced by 86% compared to the conventional chamber light using incandescent lamp.

J Electr Electron Mater 2013;26(10):771-777.   Published online October 1, 2013
This paper dealt with the development of a LED floodlight for naval vessels to replace the conventional floodlight using an incandescent and a halogen lamp. We found a technical solution for current problems of conventional lights and also improved optical characteristics by developing a LED floodlight which has a typical long-lived light source with high efficiency. To satisfy the requirements specified in Korea Standard Vessels (KS V), the optical structure was designed with selected LED package and lens. A LED module was composed of 10 LEDs in series for stable luminous output, and an aluminium heat sink was adopted for effective heat-radiation design. The LED floodlight was fabricated as a module type so that it can easily replace the conventional light source. The power consumption of the prototype floodlight was only a tenth of a conventional one with the same optical performance. Also, a test showed the floodlight satisfied the electrical, optical and environmental requirements of the standards.

Sun Jae Kim, Se Jin Kim, Gyung Suk Kil, Chang Hwan An, Dong Young Song
J Electr Electron Mater 2013;26(10):778-784.   Published online October 1, 2013
In order to develop a LED luminaire for naval-submarines which can replace a conventional one with two-compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) of 18 W, we analyzed the electrical and optical performance of the conventional luminaire. A LED luminaire was fabricated as compact as possible based on the analyzed data. The weight of the prototype LED luminaire is 1.8 kg, reducing up to 58% of the conventional one. The use of LED package for the submarine luminaire could reduce the power consumption from 38 W to 14.5 W with the same optical performance. The reason is that the optical efficacy of the LED luminaire improved by 2.47 times as 61.9 lm/W, compared to 25.1 lm/W for the conventional one.

J Electr Electron Mater 2012;25(5):334-339.   Published online May 1, 2012
A study on electrical and electronic equipment will occur in the atmosphere, which is essential to cut the power to prevent the waste of power by power measurement technology development and to develop the technology to do this operation is the main core of standby power to detect and block it and return the configured for software and hardware, while the actual construction to ensure stability through field testing and debugging of problems improved accordingly, as well as ease of installation and so it could be done while the test. In addition, in terms of basic hardware switching of standby power when blocking, reducing stress and ensure stable operation and circuit design, power off and back to ensure stable operation even when a protection circuit is applied.
