Design of a Miniature Fuse with High Breaking Capacity and Load Life Using a Ceramic Powder of Extinguishing an Electric Arc

J Electr Electron Mater 2019;32(4):327-332.   Published online July 1, 2019
Recently, inverter control systems have attracted immense attention to increase the energy efficiency. However, such systems use repeated on/off high currents for linear operation control, instead of the prevalent step variable current control method. Hence, there arise concerns of personal and property damage, especially due to the durability, explosive characteristics, and operating speed of the fuse, which is responsible for safety and is one of the internal components using current control. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an IEC60127-4 SMD sub-miniature fuse, consisting of Ag-Cu alloys and ceramic powder for arc soothing. The IEC60127-4 SMD sub-miniature fuse has high durability and cut-off capacity, and operates safely in dangerous circumstances caused by the inverter control system.

Indium-Zinc Oxide Thin Film Transistors Based N-MOS Inverter
Han-sang Kim, Sung-jin Kim
J Electr Electron Mater 2017;30(7):437-440.   Published online July 1, 2017
We report on amorphous thin-film transistors (TFTs) with indium zinc oxide (IZO) channel layers that were fabricated via a solution process. We prepared the IZO semiconductor solution with 0.1 M indium nitrate hydrate and 0.1 M zinc acetate dehydrate as precursor solutions. The solution- processed IZO TFTs showed good performance: a field-effect mobility of 7.29 ㎠/Vs, a threshold voltage of 4.66 V, a subthreshold slope of 0.48 V/dec, and a current on-to-off ratio of 1.62×105. To investigate the static response of our solution-processed IZO TFTs, simple resistor load-type inverters were fabricated by connecting a 2-MΩ resistor. Our IZOTFTbased N-MOS inverter performed well at operating voltage, and therefore, isa good candidate for advanced logic circuits and display backplane.

Insulation Life Estimation for Magnet Wire Under Inverter Surge and Temperature Stress
Jae-jun Park
J Electr Electron Mater 2016;29(10):641-646.   Published online October 1, 2016
Coil specimen was prepared by coating a copper wire with two varnish thin layers: the first was polyamideimide (PAI)/nanosilica (5 wt%) varnish and the second was anti-corona PAI/nanosilica (15 wt%) varnish. Insulation breakdown voltage was investigated under inverter surge condition at 20℃, 70℃, 100℃, 150℃, 200℃, 250℃, respectively. The insulation lifetime of the two layered coil was tens of times longer than that of original PAI coil. And the insulation lifetime decreased with increasing ambient temperature because there was weak binding strength between copper and varnish layer.

Jung Hyun Yun, Jin Sa Kim
J Electr Electron Mater 2015;28(2):131-136.   Published online February 1, 2015
We develop the 60 W class hybrid solar LED street lamp controller. The controller is providing power via an inverter in the day with the least solar cell and battery and charging the battery for the ESS, acts as a power failure, the built-in battery. Rated output of the fabricated LED street lamp is 300 W or greater battery capacity 300 Wh, discharge time 10 hr, LED street lamp efficiency showed a very high level of light efficiency by about 127 lm/W. In addition, as a result of light distribution pattern according to the distance and the light intensity measurement will be able to ensure a very high quality, show the constant brightness in the distance from the road lights 6 m is about 35~40 lux in uniformity ratio. The proposed hybrid solar LED street lamp system showed a high energy capacity of approximately 1.5 to 152.7% power generation efficiency than typical conventional solar street lamp.

Regular Paper : Characteristic Evaluation of Medical X-Ray Using High-Voltage Generator with Inverter System
Young Pyo Kim, Min Woo Cheon, Yong Pil Park
J Electr Electron Mater 2011;24(1):36-41.   Published online January 1, 2011
Medical X-ray has been brought many changes according to the rapid development of high technology. Especially, for high-voltage generator which is the most important in X-ray generation the traditional way is to use high-voltage electric transformers primarily. However, since it is large and heavy and the ripple rate of DC high-voltage applied to X-ray tube is too big, it has a disadvantage of low X-ray production efficiency. To solve these problems, the studies about high-voltage power supply are now proceeding. At present, the high-voltage generator that generates high-voltage by making high frequency using inverter control circuit consisting of semiconductor device is mainly used. High-voltage generator using inverter has advantages in the diagnosis using X-ray including high performance with short-term use, miniaturization of power supply and ripple reduction. In this study, the X-ray high-voltage device with inverter type using pulse width modulation scheme to the control of tube voltage and tube current was designed and produced. For performance evaluation of produced device, the control signal analysis, irradiation dose change and beam quality depending on the load variation of tube voltage and tube current were evaluated.

EEPROM Charge Sensors
Dong Kyu Lee, Hai Feng Jin, Byung Do Yang, Young Suk Kim, Hyung Gyoo Lee
J Electr Electron Mater 2010;23(8):605-610.   Published online August 1, 2010
Abstract: The devices based on electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) structure are proposed for the detection of external electric charges. A large size charge contact window (CCW) extended from the floating gate is employed to immobilize external charges, and a control gate with stacked metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitor is adapted for a standard single polysilicon CMOS process. When positive voltage is applied to the capacitor of CCW of an n-channel EEPROM, the drain current increases due to the negative shift of its threshold voltage. Also when a pre-charged external capacitor is directly connected to the floating gate metal of CCW, the positive charges of the external capacitor make the drain current increase for n-channel, whereas the negative charges cause it to decrease. For an p-channel, however, the opposite behaviors are observed by the external voltage and charges. With the attachment of external charges to the CCW of EEPROM inverter, the characteristic inverter voltage behavior shifts from the reference curve dependent on external charge polarity. Therefore, we have demonstrated that the EEPROM inverter is capable of detecting external immobilized charges on the floating gate. and these devices are applicable to sensing the pH`s or biomolecular reactions.
