Vulnerability Analysis of Network Communication Device by Intentional Electromagnetic Interference Radiation
Chang-su Seo, Chang-su Huh, Sung-woo Lee, In-young Jin
J Electr Electron Mater 2018;31(1):44-49.   Published online January 1, 2018
This study analyzed the Vulnerability of Network Communication devices when IEMI is coupled with the Network System. An Ultra Wide Band Generator (180 kV, 700 MHz) was used as the IEMI source. The EUTs are the Switch Hub and Workstation, which are used to configure the network system. The network system was monitored through the LAN system configuration, to confirm a malfunction of the network device. The results of the experiment indicate that a malfunction of the network occurs as the electric field increases. The data loss rate increases proportionally with increasing radiating time. In the case of the Switch Hub, the threshold electric field value was 10 kV/m for all conditions used in this experiment. The threshold point causing malfunction was influenced only by the electric field value. The correlation between the threshold point and pulse repetition rate was not found. However, in case of the Workstation, it was found that as the pulse repetition rate increases, the equipment responds weakly and the threshold value decreases. To verify the electrical coupling of the EUT by IEMI, current sensors were used to measure the PCB line inside the EUT and network line coupling current. As a result of the measurement, it can be inferred that when the coupling current due to IEMI exceeds the threshold value, it flows through the internal equipment line, causing a malfunction and subsequent failure. The results of this study can be applied to basic data for equipment protection, and effect analysis of intentional electromagnetic interference.

A Study on Malfunction Mode of CMOS IC Under Narrow-Band High-Power Electromagnetic Wave
Jin-wook Park, Chang-su Huh, Chang-su Seo, Sung-woo Lee
J Electr Electron Mater 2016;29(9):559-564.   Published online September 1, 2016
This study examined the malfunction mode of the HCMOS IC under narrow-band high-power electromagnetic wave. Magnetron is used to a narrow-band electromagnetic source. MFR (malfunction failure rate) was measured to investigate the HCMOS IC. In addition, we measured the resistance between specific pins of ICs, which are exposed and not exposed to the electromagnetic wave, respectively. As a test result of measurement, malfunction mode is shown in three steps. Flicker mode causing a flicker in LED connected to output pin of IC is dominant in more than 7.96 kV/m electric field. Self-reset mode causing a voltage drop to the input and output of IC during electromagnetic wave radiation is dominant in more than 9.1 kV/m electric field. Power-reset mode making a IC remained malfunction after electromagnetic radiation is dominant in more than 20.89 kV/m. As a measurement result of pin-to-pin resistance of IC, the differences between IC exposed to electromagnetic wave and normal IC were minor. However, the five in two hundred IC show a relatively low resistance. This is considered to be the result of the breakdown of pn junction when latch-up in CMOS occurred. Based on the results, the susceptibility of HCMOS IC can be applied to a basic database to IC protection and impact analysis of narrow-band high-power electromagnetic waves.

Technology Education : Technical Trend of Radar Radio Interference Reduction Relating to Construction of the Offshore Wind Farm
Young Dal Kim, Yun Mi Jeong, Dae Dong Lee
J Electr Electron Mater 2014;27(4):250-256.   Published online April 1, 2014
The wind power generation is an eco-friendly clean energy that produces almost zero CO2emission, and has a good economic feasibility. As for the location, the installation of large turbines and construction of large-scale wind farm is easier on the offshore than on the land. In Korea, it is inevitable to generate offshore wind power through the offshore wind farm, and the radio interference of larger wind power generators and offshore wind power farm to broadcasting, communication and radars is becoming a core issue for constructing the offshore wind farm. In this study, the wind power generation status and rotor blade technology trend were presented, along with the technical trend of radar radio interference reduction relating to construction of the offshore wind farm.

Semiconduclor : Perfect Interference Alignment for K-user MIMO X Network
Seong Ho Park, Ki Hong Park, Myeong Jin Kim, Young Chai Ko
J Electr Electron Mater 2011;24(2):95-101.   Published online February 1, 2011
In wireless X networks where all transmitters send the independent messages to all receivers, the theoretical bound on the degrees of freedom (DOF) and interference alignment (IA) scheme for its achievability are given by Cadambe and Jafar [1]. However, IA scheme for wireless X network may be infeasible in practice unless the transmitters have the perfect channel information. In addition, if the transmitter with single antenna uses time-varying channel coefficients as a beamforming vector, the infinite channel extension is required to achieve the theoretical bound on the DOF of wireless X networks with perfect IA scheme. In this paper, we consider K-user MIMO X network where K transmitters and K receivers have M antennas each. While the beamforming vectors have been constructed with multiple channel uses over multiple time slot in the earlier work, we consider the beamforming vectors constructed only by a spatial signature over unit time. Accordingly the channel information at the transmitters can be available instantaneously. Then we propose the perfect IA scheme with no channel extension. Based on our sum-rate analysis and the simulation results, we confirm that our proposed scheme can achieve MK/2 DOF which is quite close to the theoretical bound on the DOF region of wireless X networks.

Semiconduclor : Adaptive Multiuser MIMO Transmission in Wireless Systems with Cooperating Cells
Jin Hee Lee, Young Chai Koo
J Electr Electron Mater 2011;24(2):102-107.   Published online February 1, 2011
In multicell wireless systems with insufficient frequency reuse, user transmission will suffer other-cell interference (OCI). Cell cooperation is an effective way to mitigate OCI and increase the system sum rate. An adaptive scheme for serving one user in each cell was proposed in [1]. In this paper, we generalize that scheme by serving two users in each cell with adaptive zeroforcing beamforming (ZF) strategies. Based on our derived statistics of the signal-to-noise plus interference ratios, we choose the scheme to maximize the total ergodic sum-rate based on user locations. Through the numerical examples, we show that the total system sum rate can be improved by selecting appropriate transmitting strategy adaptively. As a result, our proposed system can explore spatial multiplexing gain without additional power and thus improves total system sum rate significantly.

A Study on the Environmental Effects of Compact Tower in Transmission Line
Jung Won Lee, Won Kyo Lee, Dong Il Lee
J Electr Electron Mater 2010;23(8):645-650.   Published online August 1, 2010
Abstract: The continuous increase demand for electric power leads to the additional construction of transmission facilities, but it is not easy to acquire right-of-way for transmission facilities. Therefor, there is a need for compact tower that can be built on a narrow right-of-way. the compact tower with polymer insulation arm is a solution. It can be upgrading conventional 154 kV transmission line voltages to 345 kV levels. However transmission voltage is increasing, environment interference (corona noise, radio interference, etc.) will occur gradually. This environment interference is depending on the electrical clearances of tower and configuration of conductors. Therefore the analysis of the factors of environmental interference is necessary in order to upgrading transmission voltage. This paper presents the design factor of a compact tower to meet the environmental interference standard.
